Playing It Together

The chamber music project for secondary students

About

Playing it Together is a new chamber music project that challenges Queensland secondary school students to explore the full dimensions of chamber music repertoire, from the musical greats to the most dynamic contemporary music.

Playing it Together is about experiencing the energy of chamber music. It creates a conversation between musical voices: assertively individual yet inseparably part of a group.

The project encourages young musicians to work together to develop instrumental technique, ensemble skills and live performance experience. As well as being a positive learning process, it is also an adjudicated competition, with the most outstanding performers accessing concert opportunities with one of Australia’s most widely respected chamber music groups, the Southern Cross Soloists.

Playing it Together is open to students of all levels of musical experience and is energised by principals, music teachers, parents, and chamber music supporters who want to foster musical excellence within their local communities.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Playing it Together is presented and administered by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). The project is also generously supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Education Queensland.

ABOUT THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
Playing it Together has been developed under the direction of musician and educator, Paul Dean, director of the Southern Cross Soloists. Paul is a clarinettist in much demand as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. He regularly appears at festivals throughout Australia, as well as performing with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Grainger Quartet and the Endeavour Trio.
